07. November 2024 I Events I München

togathering: out & proud

with Munich Re

Note: The event will take place in English.

While it was still considered scandalous in 1970 for MP Lenelotte von Bothmer to stand at the lectern in the Bundestag wearing a trouser suit, social norms and ideas have changed considerably since then. Today, queer authenticity encompasses far more than just expression through clothing and accessories. It manifests in many different aspects of personal life that transcend traditional categories. Looser regulations and growing acceptance allow people to express their gender identity and sexual orientation authentically and freely.

Societal notions of authenticity and professionalism are evolving, with gender expression and queer representation playing a central role. It’s about challenging stereotypical expectations and creating space for a wider range of identities and forms of expression. For members of the queer community, this often involves engaging with or consciously breaking social norms, which can lead to tension, particularly in professional settings. Recently, there has been criticism that queer activism contributes to increased social polarization, while political and social changes have also made some community members more cautious about how much they are willing and able to disclose about themselves.

At this TOGATHERING, we aim to focus on authentic queerness in the workplace and discuss how to foster an open and inclusive environment for queer expression and representation—one that goes beyond clothing and addresses a more holistic recognition of identity.

Together with PROUT EMPLOYER Munich Re we cordially invite you to:

TOGATHERING – think. talk. change.

Out & Proud

Queere Authentizität am Arbeitsplatz

Munich Re | Königinstr. 107 | 80802 München

07.11.2024 | 18:00h – 21:00h

Together with you, we will find approaches and suggestions to questions such as:

  • Gender expression as part of identity: How do we deal with prejudices and attributions based on stereotypes?
  • Looking back and looking ahead: What milestones has the community already achieved and how do we imagine future scenarios?
  • Queerness in visual language: How can representation work beyond stereotypes?
  • Job as an area of tension: how can authentic appearance be achieved?

We look forward to getting to the bottom of all these (and other) questions together with you in our interactive TOGATHERING.
